Goshen Township, Ohio

Goshen's got a new cowboy in town!

Recently 6-year-old Chase Forman, son of Karyn and Charles Forman, won the first place in Goat Tail Tying in his age division at the Ohio Junior Rodeo Association. Goat Tail Tying is an event in which a goat is tethered by a ten-foot lead, with a ribbon tied around its tail. Then a young cowboy or cowgirl runs into the ring and first has to get a hold of the goat, and then has to pull the ribbon off the goat's tail. The event is timed, and the quickest time wins.

Chase also placed 3rd in "Dummy Roping", an event where he had to lasso plastic cow and sheep heads.

This is Forman's second year competing in the Ohio Junior Rodeo Association.

He began competing at just four, and with one goal in mind. "I want to ride bulls!" The 6 year old proudly shared.

While that's a dream mom is a bit scared of, the family has embraced the rodeo lifestyle. Friends they met at church first introduced them to the OJRA, and now Chase and his 3-year-old brother Tate both take lessons from the Pleasant Plains family.

Karyn Forman says the lessons and competitions teach useful life skills including discipline, responsibility, and sportsmanship. The season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and Chase has to practice all season long.

"It's a fun event, the kids have a blast, and it's safe environment to meet friends in," Forman says of traveling to the rodeos.

Chase's favorite part though, is playing in the mud at the end of the competition.
