Goshen Band Ready to Take on the Big Apple!
They've worked the concession stand at baseball games, they've bagged groceries at Bigg's, and now they're hosting chili dinners in cooperation with Skyline and Gold Star Chili. The members of the Goshen High School Marching Warriors have been working hard all summer to raise funds in order to support the bands first out of state trip in over a decade.
Band booster Karen Dziech said it's work well worth the payoff- a "once in a lifetime" 5 day trip to the Big Apple to perform in front of the Statue of Liberty. This will be the band's first trip in well over a decade according to boosters. It's a tradition the new band director is bringing back, "says band alumni Erwin Walker Jr., "We took lots of trips when I was in the band."
This year's trip is scheduled to run from November 18- 22nd. The band will arrive in New York on a Tour bus and explore the city before performing their 2009 football show at the Statue of Liberty. They may even try to make an appearance on national TV in the crowd outside of the "Today" show when they get to New York on November 18th.
Dziech said the trip is important because, "It allows the students to do and see things they otherwise may never get to."
The cost per student is right at $700 each. The boosters say the fundraisers will ensure that cost does not go up, and may even bring the cost down if enough money is raised. More fundraisers are planned through August and September. 50 students and 13 chaperones are signed up to go on the trip.
